Giants left fielder Angel Pagan tackles activist on field during game against Dodgers

SAN FRANCISCO (KABC) -- Giants left fielder Angel Pagan body-slammed an activist who ran onto the field into the outfield grass at AT&T Park during the fourth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

A female activist was also taken down by security in shallow right field. The two, who are with the grassroots animal rights network Direct Action Everywhere, were presenting white flowers to Dodgers and Giants players. Both were removed from the field.

The male activist approached catcher Buster Posey, who with his left arm shoved the man to the ground. The man jumped up and ran and third baseman Gordon Beckham swiped at him before he took off into left field. Pagan offered a hand as if to accept the flower before throwing both arms around the man, twisting him and throwing him to the ground.

The activists wanted to draw attention to a piglet named Miley the activists rescued from the farm that supplies the famed "Dodger Dogs," according to a press release from Direct Action Everywhere.

The group said their investigation found rampant disease, extreme crowding, and mass usage of antibiotics at a facility that supplies the hot dogs and said the incident was intended to get support from the players.

Pagan received a roaring ovation from the sellout crowd when the half-inning ended and tipped his cap.
