A 13-year-old girl in need of a new heart received a galactic surprise from far far away from her doctor at Loma Linda University's Children's Hospital!

LOMA LINDA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 13-year-old girl in need of a new heart received a galactic surprise from far far away from her doctor at Loma Linda University's Children's Hospital.

Dr. Matthew Bock, Codi Pelton's cardiologist, dressed in a full Storm Trooper costume, broke the good news to his young patient. The good news? After waiting on a transplant list for two and a half years, Codi was getting a new heart!

Codi, a huge "Star Wars" fan, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

The youngster, her mom and the nurses all burst into tears as Dr. Bock walked into the room to thematic music and handed Codi a sign that read, "You have a new heart."

Here's even better news - it has been nearly five months since the transplant, and Codi is rejection free and has been able to return to school.

Codi is an eighth-grader at Cielo Vista Charter School in Palm Springs. According to her mom, Lisa Pelton, Codi is looking forward to running in the district track meet in March.

"She hadn't been able to do P.E. since the fourth grade," Codi's mom said. "We are all overjoyed at her progress."
