LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- As a heat wave moves into Southern California, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is urging the public to conserve electricity.

When temperatures rise, appliances have to work hard to keep running, which may lead to outages.
LADWP offers a few tips to keep consumption down:
Energy vampires "are constantly consuming energy. so you can unplug those. It will help you save not only money, but it will help you reduce energy use," said Jay Puklavetz with LADWP.
