HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles police say a 2-year-old girl died after a bed collapsed on top of her at an apartment in Highland Park.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 5200 block of Glen Ellen Place. Police say a babysitter couldn't find the child. After an extensive search of the area and the apartment, the child was found underneath a trundle bed, which had fallen on top of the toddler.

The child was rushed to the hospital, but doctors could not revive her.

"Everything so far looks like...a tragic accident that happens when the eyes of an adult aren't on a young child," said Lt. Craig Herron with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators say no criminal charges will be filed at this time.
