RIALTO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 28-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the street on Foothill Boulevard, east of Cedar Avenue, in Rialto Friday night.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Rialto police officers received a call regarding a pedestrian who was hit by a car. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man lying on the road. The man suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

Family members identified the victim as Michael Zimora. A single candle marked the site of the hit-and-run Saturday.

"It's hard to think that someone would do this and not stop," Zimora's girlfriend Tamara Shearer said. "He has a family that loves him deeply."

Witnesses at the scene said the suspect was driving a light blue car that looked similar to a Chrysler 300 and that the car fled east down Foothill Boulevard after hitting Zimora.

The investigation is ongoing.
