LAKE HUGHES, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation was underway after human remains were found in an extremely remote area of Pine Canyon near the Upper Shake Campground in Lake Hughes Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Hunters made the discovery around 7 p.m. They then climbed down a mountain and reported their discovery to personnel at the Palmdale Sheriff's Station, officials said.
Sheriff's homicide detectives, personnel from the crime lab and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, and a cadaver dog responded to the location in the daylight hours on Sunday to locate and recover the remains.
Homicide detectives were investigating if the remains had any trauma or evidence of an injury. The coroner's office will determine the identity of the remains.
No other information was immediately available.
