2 women escape death on Indiana rail bridge
Two women were nearly killed by a train on an Indiana railroad bridge, and their brush with death was caught on camera.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (KABC) -- Some incredible video out of Indiana will make you think twice before ignoring a "No Trespassing" sign.

Two women were nearly killed by an oncoming train on a railroad bridge on July 10. Their brush with death was caught on camera.

A freight train was traveling down the 80-foot high bridge northeast of Bloomington as the two women walked along the tracks.

The engineer of the 100-car, 14,000-ton coal train saw the two women attempting to cross, sounded the horn and applied the brakes as fast as he could.

The women began to run, but soon realized they had few choices. They dove down between the tracks. Luckily, there was enough room to keep them from being crushed.

The train made it across the bridge before it finally stopped.

Indiana Railroad Spokesman Eric Powell said the engineer feared the worst.

"The engineer threw the train into emergency braking as soon as possible," Powell said. "He had thought he had killed the two people here on this bridge."

The engineer asked the women if they were OK. One said she stubbed her toe, but otherwise both were fine.

The women climbed down from the bridge and fled in their car, but train personnel saw them and wrote down their license plate number.

Monroe County prosecutors are reviewing the incident for potential criminal charges.
