Strong winds blowing through Inland Empire; hazardous conditions expected

FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) -- Strong winds hit the Inland Empire, causing trees to topple and debris to scatter throughout cities like Fontana and Ontario on Friday.

The wind gusts created dangerous driving conditions as strong breezes were seen pushing cars and big rigs off the roads.

The weather conditions erupted small brush fires throughout San Bernardino County, including a minor wind-driven brush fire in Devore that was later put out.

The hazardous Santa Ana winds prompted local fire departments have extra staff on standby as dangerous fire conditions were expected for at least 48 hours.

A toppled tree knocked out power near California Baptist University, leading the school to cancel classes at the Riverside campus. Crews were seen working on signal lights in the area that also lost power.
