IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- Nine people were injured, four seriously, after an elderly man crashed through a fence, hit two cars and several pedestrians at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater Saturday night.

Authorities said the incident happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 8800 block of Irvine Center Drive near the box office right before a concert started.

Authorities said an elderly man drove through the parking lot near the entrance and suddenly hit a fence, a nearby car and several pedestrians.

The man then hit an unoccupied parked police car, pushing it into a grass area where people were picknicking. Several people in the grass area were injured and treated, authorities said.

It was unclear what caused the crash. The investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with more information was asked to call the Irvine Police Department Detective Jon Cherney at (949) 724-7024.
