LA HABRA, Calif. (KABC) -- A teenage boy in La Habra called 911 for help after his father allegedly killed his mother and was about to turn the gun on himself.

After receiving the emergency report, police rushed to the 600 block of N. Fonda Street around 8:26 p.m. Responding officers found a man and a woman dead inside a residence.

The teenage boy and his sister were physically unharmed and were sent to stay with other family members.

The couple's neighbor Sandra said she heard the gunshots. When she saw police arrive on scene, she knew her fears were confirmed.

"I put two and two together. That was a gun I heard, that was. But at that point, it was just, who got shot? Are the kids OK?" she said.

Sandra said the couple's son is in eighth grade, and his younger sister is around 4 years old.

"The mom was very nice, very personable. We used to talk for a long time, but we never heard anything. Never heard any fighting, never heard any arguing, nothing," Sandra said.

The identities of those involved were not released.
