LOS ANGELES -- Laguna Beach resident and breast cancer survivor Sharael Kolberg is virtually running a mile in each of the 50 states to raise awareness.
October is breast cancer awareness month, and Laguna Beach resident Sharael Kolberg is a breast cancer survivor. Having received a clean bill of health after a 15-month long battle with the disease, she has now decided to do what she loves - run, to bring awareness and raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
To celebrate her health and her 50th birthday, her plan was to visit each state and run one mile in each of the 50 states. 50 miles in 50 states, but unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic kept her from travelling. So she has decided to enlist one person from each state and help her run the mile virtually.
"I was in treatment for 15 months, and there were a lot of days where I literally couldn't even get out of bed," Kolberg told ABC7. "It was really important for me to get back to running to feel a sense of normalcy and recovery."
Sharael is now in the middle of her 50 miles virtual run. If you would like to run with her, donate or learn more visit 50forthecure.org
