VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 44-year-old Glendale man was arrested for allegedly posing as a Los Angeles Police Department officer.

Ventura police received a call on Sunday about four suspicious men standing around a police car, with one of the men putting on a police uniform in a parking lot on Capri Avenue east of Johnson Drive.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man in full LAPD uniform with a badge, name plate, a patrol duty belt and gun.

The man, identified as 44-year-old Oliver James, was standing next to a black and white patrol vehicle with the word "police" written on the side and a light bar attached to the top.

James identified himself as an active-duty LAPD officer.

Upon investigation, patrol officers found that James did not work for the LAPD and was not a sworn police officer. The unregistered car had been sold by the department three years ago.

Ventura police impounded the car and took James into custody for impersonating a police officer and carrying a firearm.

Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4309.
