LAX-NJ flight forced to divert in Las Vegas

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A flight from Los Angeles to New Jersey ran into mechanical problems and had to make an unscheduled landing Tuesday morning.

United Flight 642 took off from LAX around 10:30 a.m., but was diverted to Las Vegas due to a mechanical issue.

The 164 passengers on board were able to safely exit the plane in Las Vegas.

They were expected to be put on another plane and continue on to Newark later Tuesday.
