Cleanup efforts underway across Southern California ahead of another storm

Efforts are underway across Southern California to clean up downed trees, flooding and rockslides after days of rain, and the rush is on to get it all done before the next storm moves in.

Conditions will dry up somewhat for the next few days, but more rain is on the way to the region this week.

A chance for spotty, light showers will stick around Tuesday morning and afternoon.

Wednesday is expected to be mostly dry before another system arrives and brings even more showers between Thursday and Friday.

Forecasters said that system could drop another quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain.

New video shows fresh snow in Big Bear Lake which means Snow Summit could open soon.

The resort said it received about 1 to 2 inches of fresh snow Monday, giving the slopes the first real winter blanket of the season. More snow is expected to fall on Tuesday.

"Our mountain ops crew is ready to flip on the snow guns to build on that natural base and get us one step closer to spinning those lifts," read an update posted on the Snow Summit's website. "Opening Day is still to be determined as we wait to see how much the storm delivers (and how much extra magic we can make overnight), but things are definitely moving in the right direction."

When will the next round of rain hit SoCal?

Southern California isn't done with the stormy weather yet, so what can the region expect the rest of the week?

Apart from some scattered showers in the morning Tuesday, conditions will continue to dry out into Wednesday. But the break from the rain won't last long.

Southern California will get a break from the rain, but it won't last long as another storm arrives later this week.

Yet another storm system will bring more rain starting Thursday afternoon into Friday.

Forecasters say that system could drop another quarter- to three-quarters of an inch of rain.

Weekend weather should be dry and sunny.

People across Southern California are cleaning up downed trees, flooded roadways and rockslides after the region was slammed with days of rain.

Overnight, a large tree that fell over onto Encino Avenue in the Northridge area, blocking a portion of the road. And that just one of many instances of damage left behind by the storm.

Neighbors in the area said it was very loud as the tree came down.

"I thought it was somebody crashing into trash cans and I walked outside and I saw our poor tree had tumbled," said homeowner Maurice Neri.

No injuries were reported, but the tree knocked down some communications lines.

Over on Malibu Canyon Road, several large rocks and boulders, mud and debris came tumbling down onto the road.

With another storm moving into the area later this week, there's a certain urgency to get those trouble spots cleared up in time.
