LA Rams announce 2016 team captains

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Rams announced the team captains for the 2016 season, the team's first since returning to Southern California.

Head coach Jeff Fisher announced the team's vote for captains the week before the Rams kicked off their season against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

For the offense, quarterback Case Keenum and running back Todd Gurley were voted as captains.

Keenum, the undrafted QB out of the University of Houston, won the starting job over Sean Mannion and rookie Jared Goff.

Gurley is heading into his second year with the Rams and rushed for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns despite missing the first three games of his rookie season. He was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015.

On the defensive side, defense tackle Aaron Donald and linebacker Alec Ogletree were voted as the captains.

Donald has exploded onto the scene since being drafted No. 13 overall in 2014 and has been a Pro Bowler in each of his first two seasons. He was also named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014.

Ogletree, a first-round pick out of the University of Georgia in 2013, is transitioning from outside linebacker to middle linebacker this season after the release of the Rams' all-time leading tackler James Laurinitis.
