Murder-suicide suspected in Mission Viejo shooting

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (KABC) -- Two bodies were found in the parking area of an apartment complex in Mission Viejo Friday night following an apparent murder-suicide.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the Camden Apartments complex in the 26000 block of La Alameda at 8:36 p.m.

Investigators believe Scott E. Gimbel, 50, of Mission Viejo and Linda Sachs Gimbel, 44, of San Clemente were arguing during the course of a child-custody exchange when Scott shot and killed Linda, before turning the weapon on himself.

Their bodies were discovered outside Linda's vehicle. The couple's 13-year-old and 7-year-old children were inside the vehicle, but were not injured during the incident. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
