Lara Ramirez was pulled over by the CHP Wednesday morning, 10 miles from the Nevada border. Her 5-month-old baby, Aitana, and a male companion were all inside the vehicle.
"Mom and a man she was with, and left with according to witnesses, are being detained. The baby is being checked out but sounds like everyone is safe," said Mountain View police spokesperson Katie Nelson.

Baby Aitana is safe. Lara Ramirez and the man she was with have been detained. We'll have more later but for now, a big sigh of relief and our thanks to @CHP_Barstow. https://t.co/RCxWtXGQhi
The Crimes Against Persons Team worked throughout the night to try and locate Ramirez. They got the call about 9 a.m. Wednesday from the CHP Bristowe Division with the news that the mother and baby had been found.
"Through the course of the investigation, we learned Mom had made some concerning statements over the last couple of days that really had us worried about her wellbeing as well as the safety and wellbeing of the child," Nelson said.
Police would not disclose what Ramirez had said, but officers say friends and family were concerned about why Ramirez left and what she had planned.
"I know a lot of questions have come up why is this a potential crime and really our concern that we had had was that Mom was looking to take the baby out of state and the end result shows she was only 10 miles from Nevada border and that is a crime."
Police will now work to reunite the baby with her father and to figure out next steps for Ramirez, her companion and this family.
