SAGE, Calif. (KABC) -- Firefighters were battling a fast-moving brush fire in Riverside County Friday that prompted evacuation orders and warnings for nearby residents.

The so-called Taffle Fire broke out shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the 44200 block of Taffle Ranch Road, south of Red Mountain Road in the unincorporated area of Sage, according to CAL FIRE.

The fire has burned 77 acres, and it's 50% contained, fire officials said.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for nearby residents at the height of the fire. All evacuations had been lifted by Saturday evening.

CAL FIRE and the Riverside County Fire Department had multiple ground and air crews helping battle the blaze.

The agency said multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through medium vegetation in the lightly populated area.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

At 2:30 p.m. Friday, the fire's burn area had been closed off to the west and south, though the head of the blaze was still burning slowly across open space. Firefighters succeeded in keeping the flames south of Red Mountain and east of Oak Drive, where only a few scattered residential properties were in the path of the fire.

At 3:44 p.m., CAL FIRE announced it had released all air tankers as the level of active fire diminished. Firefighters continue to construct a containment line around the fire, but said forward progress had been stopped.

The fire agency said firefighters would be working through the night to fully contain the blaze and mop up.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
