Moments after the news broke about the apparent abduction of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie's mother, the floodgates opened on social media.
The Hawthorne man is charged with transmitting a demand for ransom, among other charges. The judge ordered him released on a $20,000 bond.
The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff's Department area "aware of a new message regarding Nancy Guthrie," the sheriff's office said Friday.
The man allegedly used an app to create a fake phone number to text the family, according to a federal complaint.
