SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles County fire crews responded to a small brush fire along the southbound 14 Freeway in the Newhall Pass area on Monday.

The fire erupted shortly after noon near the 5 Freeway interchange. The blaze charred about 2 acres before it was fully contained.

The fire reportedly ignited when flames from a car fire on the shoulder of the freeway spread to surrounding brush. The driver of the burned out vehicle was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.

The California Highway Patrol said three right southbound lanes were temporarily shut down due to the fire. Several firefighters remained on scene dousing hot spots.
