DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Investigators said two people shot and killed an 18-year-old man, before they were captured on surveillance video running away. The victim's family is asking for help to find them.
"He was a good kid," said Kenya Gatling, the victim's mother. "I'm just hoping that you guys get the people that did it. It would be justice for my whole family and for myself."
It all happened back on Aug. 27 as Marshawn Jackson, 18, was walking home after visiting a few friends. Investigators said he was on Parmelee Avenue and 96th Street when the two suspects were coming in the opposite direction. There was a confrontation.
"Words were exchanged, and then they both started arguing with each other. The two males I'm talking about - Marshawn and this male suspect - and then as it got more heated that's when the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Marshawn," said Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
That's when the suspects ran down 96th Street and disappeared. Sheriff's investigators believe someone can recognize them through the surveillance video.
"Just the way they ran, the area they ran to. We do believe they live in the area or they know somebody in the area," said Corina. "So that's one of the reasons we will go back to that area, pass out flyers and knock on doors again because we believe somebody over there knows them."
The county is now offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the suspects.
Jackson's family said they need closure.
"Marshawn was a good kid," said Christopher Eskridge, the victim's cousin. "He wasn't a gang banger. He wasn't affiliated with any kind of gangs. This is a senseless murder, and we need to come together."
Detectives said anyone with information can remain anonymous. Tipsters can call the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau or L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
