2 police officers shot in New York City; officers expected to survive

Two New York City police officers shot Thursday night in the Bronx are expected to survive, and investigators said they believe they have all suspects in custody.

Officials said the shootings took place on East 156th Street at the Melrose Houses just after 8 p.m.

The NYPD said a male officer was shot in the head and a female officer shot in the torso. Both officers were alert and stable when they were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police stated one suspect was shot and two other suspects were in custody and being questioned. A firearm was recovered, according to the NYPD.

Officials said there were not believed to be any other suspects.

The two officers were shot while on routine patrol in the hallway of housing project, ABC7 sister-station WABC in New York City reported.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was delivering his State of the City speech about 5 miles away when the shooting happened. His spokeswoman said he was briefed as soon as he left the stage and was headed to the hospital.
