Ventura County's air unit hoisted people to safety after they became trapped by flash flooding and mudflows.

MONTECITO, Calif. -- The Ventura County Aviation Unit supported rescue efforts in Montecito, capturing dramatic video of its helicopter airlifting people to safety.

The powerful mudslides blocked lanes of the 101 Freeway, destroyed homes and trapped people in debris and rubble. At least eight people died in weather-related incidents in Santa Barbara County.

Ventura County's helicopter was among many kept busy lifting people to safety after they were trapped by mud.
