MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (KABC) -- A jewelry store at The Shops at Mission Viejo was robbed by multiple armed suspects Wednesday afternoon.

Orange County sheriffs said four armed suspects wearing masks robbed the Fredric H. Rubel Jewelers around 12:54 p.m. There were no shots fired in the vicinity and it is unclear how much jewelry was stolen.

In a one-minute surveillance video released by the sheriff's department, the four suspects used sledgehammers to smash through multiple glass displays and quickly grab items out of the cases.

The suspects then quickly fled the scene. Witnesses reported that bags of jewelry were being thrown from a vehicle on the 405 Freeway near the Beach Boulevard exit about 20 miles from the robbery location.

Investigators located the bags and determined the items were from the robbery. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OCSD at (714) 647-7000. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to OC Crime Stoppers at (855) 847-6227.
