WOODCREST, Calif. (KABC) -- Sixty-one dogs were taken from a Woodcrest home outside Riverside after an attic fire broke out on Saturday.

Firefighters quickly put out the flames shortly after 3:15 p.m. in the 16400 block of Pick Place. No people or dogs were injured.

The owners of the dogs, which were all Shetland Sheepdogs or Shetland Sheepdog mixes, surrendered ownership to Riverside Animal Control, which will work with rescues to get the dogs adopted.

The American Red Cross is helping three of the displaced residents.
