8 hikers from UCLA rescued in Angeles National Forest

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST (KABC) -- Eight students from a hiking club at UCLA were rescued over the weekend in the Angeles National Forest, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The hikers went missing Saturday evening near Throop Peak at an 8,200-foot elevation.

The group was supposed to hike from South Mount Hawkins and return to Islip Saddle, but they never made it. They ended up walking all the way to the Little Jimmy Campground.

The hikers were found around 12:30 a.m. Sunday by the Montrose Search and Rescue Team from the Crescenta Valley Station.

It took rescuers six hours to hike out the students because of the snowy and icy conditions. Besides being cold, no one was hurt.
