One person was shot at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Okla., today, the Oklahoma City Police Department announced on Twitter. The victim later succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.

The Oklahoma Police Department has identified the victim as Michael Winchester, 52, an employee of Southwest Airlines.

A suspect was later found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. Airport operations have now been resumed.

Southwest Airlines confirmed that one of its employees had died in a statement, saying, "It is with great sorrow that Southwest Airlines confirms that a Southwest Employee who was injured during a shooting incident today at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has died from injuries. We continue to work with the local authorities investigating this incident."

Local authorities initially announced on Twitter that the airport was shut down, and advised people inside to "shelter in place."

Capt. Paco Balderrama, the public information officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department, said his department had received "reports of shots fired in the parking lot area of Will Rogers World Airport."

"We're really asking for everybody to stay away from the airport area. All the streets are blocked off," he added.
