Burglary suspects crash car into front of gun store in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- Ventura police are searching for two suspects who broke into a check-cashing business and then crashed a car into a nearby gun store during back-to-back burglaries Sunday morning.

Around 4 a.m., the Ventura Police Department received a call of an alarm activation at Mega Mart Check Cashing in the 1400 block of East Main Street. Officers arrived to find the location had been burglarized.

Within 15 minutes, another company called about an alarm going off at Red Seal Arms in the 100 block of N. Ashwood Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found that the suspects used a car to damage the front door and security gate to enter the business.

Authorities were working with the business owners to determine what was stolen. Based on information obtained in the investigation, police believe the same suspects committed both crimes.

The gun store owner said the culprits took common hand guns and rifles - nothing high-end. That owner said he and some friends are camping inside the shop to make sure the thieves don't strike again.

The investigation was ongoing.
