HOUSTON -- A woman is accused of leaving her grandchild alone in a car for hours while she gambled in northeast Harris County.

Authorities say 54-year-old Gudonna Johnson drove to the game room around 3 p.m. Thursday and left the 3-year-old boy in her car with the windows down for a few hours. Game room workers say the grandmother sat right by the door and kept looking out at her grandson.

Officials say more than one hour passed between those check-ups and that's when someone inside the game room called authorities.

"Windows were down, it was not very hot out luckily, but this is a part of town where someone could have walked by and taken the child. No one should, no parent should, leave a child unattended for that period of time," Harris County Pct. 4 Capt. Wally Wieghat said.

Constables called an ambulance and spent an hour and a half looking over the boy.

Johnson faces a child endangerment charge. Court records show she does have prior arrests.
