SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A car went up in flames after arson investigators say a suspect threw an incendiary device, possibly a firebomb or a Molotov cocktail, into an oncoming car in San Bernardino Friday night.
The incident occurred in the 1000 block of West 2nd Street at about 8:02 p.m.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Humberto Zubia, was stopped at a red light when another vehicle pulled up next to him, a preliminary investigation revealed. That's when a suspect in the second vehicle threw an incendiary device into Zubia's vehicle.
The device landed on the front passenger floorboard and immediately started a fire. Zubia crashed and hit a second vehicle, which then crashed into a vacant duplex.
Firefighters with the San Bernardino Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire quickly.
Zubia was transported to a local hospital with burns to his arms. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.
A description of the suspect was not immediately available. It remains unknown if Zubia was specifically targeted or if the attack was a random act of violence.
Anyone with further information was urged to contact the San Bernardino Police Department.
