Los Angeles named most traffic-clogged city in US

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Drivers in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana area spent 81 hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic last year, according to a new study from the data company Inrix which named the City of Angels the most traffic congested city in the United States.

Inrix said some of the worst corridors around the Southland include the 101 Freeway from Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Vignes Street, the 101 Freeway from Soto Street to Haskell Avenue, the 10 Freeway from 20th Street to Alameda Street, the 5 Freeway from Cesar E. Chavez Avenue to Valley View Avenue and the 5 Freeway from Artesia Boulevard to Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.

Commuters in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. spent 75 hours in traffic last year, about six hours less than Angelenos. The average U.S. commuter wasted 50 hours behind the wheel last year, Inrix said.

Amid the region's ever-worsening traffic, there's some good news. London actually topped the list when it comes to the worst traffic in the world. Drivers in London spent 101 hours or more than four days in gridlock in 2015.

The data was drawn from traffic speed data collected by Inrix on 1.3 million miles of urban streets and highways, along with highway performance data from the Federal Highway Administration.

Inrix said strong economies, population growth, higher employment rates and declining gas prices have resulted in more drivers on the road.
