Long Beach Police Department officers responded at 2:40 a.m. to a request to assist Long Beach Fire Department firefighters after a report of a "man down" at Pacific Coast Highway and Pacific Avenues, said police Lt. Erik Herzog.

The officers arrived at the scene to find a man in the street suffering from several stab wounds to his torso, the lieutenant said. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
