SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Police shot a driver they say was armed with a sawed-off shotgun in San Bernardino on Saturday.

The man later died in the hospital, according to Police Chief Jarrod Burguan.

The incident began when police tried to pull over what they thought was a stolen vehicle and the driver took off on foot. Eventually officers caught up with the man and tried to tase him. The driver managed to get up and run off, police said.

That's when officers noticed the man was carrying a shotgun and they fired, police said.

Medics rushed the man to the hospital, where he later died.
