Rodger manifesto describes murder, revenge

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 137-page document believed to have been written by Isla Vista shooting suspect Elliot Rodger details intentions for a "Day of Retribution."

In the document, he writes about a lifetime of depression and inferiority that turned into a blinding desire for violence.

The first phase of his plan began with killing his two housemates the day before the "Day of Retribution" in order "to secure the entire apartment... as my personal torture and killing chamber." He would then lure other victims into his apartment and kill them too.

Next, Rodger described the "Day of Retribution," when he would target women who lived in the Alpha Phi sorority and represented the women who rejected him.

"I will sneak into their house at around 9:00 p.m. on the Day of Retribution, just before all of the partying starts, and slaughter every single one of them with my guns and knives," Rodger wrote.

Rodger planned to kill his brother and stepmother to deny his brother the "chance to grow up" and "surpass" him.

He also wrote about his intention to run over several people on Del Playa Street, before taking a combination of pills and shooting himself in the head.

The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department officials said they were aware of the document and described the rampage as the "work of a mad man."

"It's very, very apparent that he was severely, mentally disturbed when you view that document," Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said.

Deputies had previously contacted Rodger at his residence, but said he was polite, courteous and shy.

Rodger wrote in his manifest: "If they had demanded to search my room... that would have ended everything. For a few horrible seconds, I thought it was all over."
