ISLA VISTA, Calif. (KABC) -- George Chen's grieving parents added their names in chalk to the memorial that stands in honor of their son and his friends James Hong and David Wong.
"We would die a hundred times, a thousand times, but we don't want our kids to get hurt. This shouldn't happen to any family," said Chen's mother, Kelly Wang.
The three UCSB students were stabbed to death Friday in the apartment Hong and Wong shared with Elliot Rodger. It was the beginning of what Rodger called his "Day of Retribution."
He had posted YouTube videos and a 137-page manifesto voicing his contempt for nearly everyone and his plan to seek revenge.
Investigators say Rodger then drove through town firing handguns, killing Veronika Weiss and Katie Cooper outside a sorority and Christopher Martinez who was inside a deli.
