POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A San Bernardino police officer who was critically wounded in the line of duty has finally been released from the hospital.
Officer Gabriel Garcia, 31, was transported to a rehab center in Pomona overnight.
On Aug. 22, Garcia and his partner stopped to talk to a group of people on the 1900 block of Garner Avenue in San Bernardino when a man suddenly pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking Garcia.
The other officer, who was still in training, shot and killed the suspect, identified as Alex Alvarado.
Garcia, a 6-year veteran of the police department, had been recovering at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. His partner was back on the job, officials said.
