1 critically injured, others forced to evacuate after fire at LA motel involving fireworks

WILMINGTON, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person was critically injured and others forced to evacuate after a fire broke out in a motel parking lot in Wilmington involving fireworks.

The L.A. Fire Department said crews responded to the 1100 block of W. Pacific Coast Highway at about 8:30 p.m. for reports of multiple cars catching on fire in the parking lot of a motel. Firefighters found a large pile of fireworks, according to LAFD.

The discovery forced evacuations and the bomb squad to swarm the area. It's unknown how many people were evacuated.

One person was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

LAFD arson investigators are on scene.

No further details were immediately known.
