WEST COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- An 18-month-old boy was found safe after being abducted in West Covina, allegedly by an estranged aunt who remained at large, authorities said Saturday morning.
Isaiah Sunel Nava was located on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles, according to the West Covina Police Department, and is considered "OK." Additional details were not immediately available.
Police are still looking for the toddler's estranged aunt, 26-year-old Amber Alexis Destiny Zarate, who they say is their primary person of interest.
Officers were called at 5:50 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 1600 block of East Mardina Street regarding a reported kidnapping. They subsequently learned the child was taken from the home by Zarate, police Sgt. Steve Spagon said.
Investigators obtained surveillance video showing Zarate in the area at the time of the abduction, authorities said. Zarate is on parole, a known drug user, has violent tendencies and has outstanding warrants for her arrest, according to police.
Zarate is homeless and frequents the Los Angeles area, according to police. She was last seen wearing a black top and white pants, was carrying a black backpack and was believed to be traveling on foot.
Anyone with information about this kidnapping is asked to call the West Covina Police Department at 626-939-8500. Anonymous callers may call the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers by telephone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by email at info@lacrimestoppers.org.
