SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A procession was held Monday honoring Lt. Col. Gabriel Estrella as the fallen airman made his final journey home.
Estrella was one of eight people killed June 15 when a B-52 bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base.
A final tribute was held Monday afternoon as a procession departed Ontario International Airport and traveled east on the 10 Freeway to Family Memorial Mortuary in San Bernardino.
Along the route, San Bernardino County firefighters paid tribute from a freeway overpasses as the procession passed below.
Estrella, 39, served as a weapons system officer with the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center. His family described the position as his dream job.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a 3-year-old daughter.
