LA chase ends after driver goes off road, crashes

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A lengthy chase involving shooting suspects ended when the fleeing driver veered off the road and crashed at an intersection in Monterey Park Tuesday night.

AIR7 was over the pursuit around 11 p.m. as the driver fled from Los Angeles police on surface streets in the East L.A. and Boyle Heights area.

The chase then entered the downtown and Westlake areas as several police units followed.

The suspect at the center of a shooting in Boyle Heights led Los Angeles police on a high-speed chase on Tuesday night.

The chase lasted about an hour, with the vehicle coming dangerously close to other cars. At one point, the driver even pulled a U-turn onto the sidewalk to get away.

Eventually, the driver appeared to have lost control exiting the freeway in Monterey Park and went off road before crashing near Corporate Center Drive and Ramona Boulevard.

It is believed three people were in the suspect vehicle, and two were taken into custody after fleeing the crash. The third person was taken into custody several hours later.

Los Angeles police said the suspects were involved in a shooting that happened earlier on Tuesday in Boyle Heights.
