LA chase: Robbery suspects run red lights, avoid spike strips

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Suspected armed robbers led law enforcement on a dangerous chase through Los Angeles - weaving in and out of traffic and often driving the wrong way.

AIR7 was over the pursuit just before 6 p.m. Wednesday as the driver zigzagged across traffic in South L.A. The chase stayed mostly on surface streets in the area.

There were moments when the fleeing driver ignored red lights, went the wrong way and drove at high speeds despite plenty of traffic.

Police tried using spike strips to stop the suspects, but the driver avoided them each time.

At one point, the suspects got on the freeway and used the shoulder to avoid traffic.

The chase eventually ended about 30 minutes later when the suspects ditched their white sedan near the Nickerson Gardens public housing apartment complex in Watts. It's unclear if any arrests were made.

The LAPD was the agency involved in the pursuit. Police initially said the suspects were wanted for carjacking but later determined they were wanted for robbery.
