Explosion shakes Inglewood apartment after apparent burglary

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- An explosion at an apartment complex in Inglewood left a neighborhood shaken on Sunday.

The explosion happened after a burglary was reported in the neighborhood around noon.

Inglewood police are now looking for the alleged burglar in what's being called a bizarre turn of events.

The explosion happened near Grevillea Avenue by Spruce Avenue. There is moderate damage to the building, but fortunately, no one was hurt and no one has been displaced.

Investigators are trying to determine exactly what exploded.

Police say the caller who reported the burglary said they saw a masked man leaving an apartment just before the explosion.

Investigators believe the explosion may be connected to an incident from last week. A 911 caller said a man was pounding on a door at the apartment complex.

"We think the two are related. Thus far, no one is hurt. We could use the public's help, if anyone got a better description or a video of this individual that was pounding on the door," said Det. Neal Cochran with Inglewood police. "The situation is still unfolding, and we do have the sheriff's department; they are going to give us their expertise with the bomb squad to see if any other items were found or what it was exactly that set it off."

Police believe it was an isolated incident and the threat is over.
