Long Beach family offers $5,000 reward after thieves steal pet parrot

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the return of a parrot stolen from a Long Beach home, according to the bird's owners.

The family said a group of men first scoped out their property on June 2. They returned the next day and attempted to steal the bird, named Harley, but were unsuccessful. The family said the men came back a third time, broke into their home early Friday morning and took the 30-year-old parrot.

The loss has left the family devastated, describing Harley as a cherished pet and longtime companion.

"Very fun bird, spoke two different languages, loved to sing songs, now knows my daughter's children, so knew the grandchildren. I would just love to get him back, we really would," said owner Randi Winter. "He was just an awesome bird. I'm so worried about what might be happening to him. He lived here in this cage for 16 years and he knew the all neighborhood, all the kids loved him. He would just make everybody happy. I can't believe somebody would do this."

Winter is urging anyone with information about the theft or the bird's whereabouts to come forward.
