SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Firefighters on Monday morning called off a search for a dog that was reported missing after it apparently wandered into Santa Clarita's underground sewer system.

A Los Angeles County Fire Department search-and-rescue team responded to the 22000 block of Circle J Ranch Road, in a hilltop residential area near Parvin Drive, after the call came in about 7:15 a.m., officials said.

Video from AIR7 showed firefighters removed at least two manhole covers on the street and sidewalk, and used cameras to search for the canine.

The search effort was unsuccessful and was called off about three hours later.

A description of the missing dog was not immediately available.
