Former NBA star Paul Pierce found asleep behind the wheel on 101 Freeway, arrested for DUI, CHP says

Former NBA star Paul Pierce was arrested for DUI overnight on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP says officers found him asleep behind the wheel around 11:35 p.m.

Lanes were closed for a separate crash near Lankershim, and when they went to reopen the roadway, officers found Pierce in a Range Rover SUV stopped in traffic lanes south of the crash scene.

That's when officers approached the SUV and found Pierce asleep at the wheel, according to CHP.

CHP says he showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested.

Pierce retired from the NBA in 2017 and played for several teams, but was most known for his time with the Celtics.

Before his professional career, Pierce played basketball at Inglewood High School.
