Diverse tastes and good community will have you going to Town

MONTROSE, Calif. (KABC) -- This Friday, we're going to Town.

In the community of Montrose, this is a neighborhood favorite for brunch, lunch and dinner.

"It's been a fabulous 11-year journey now," co-owner Jim Collins said. "Our community is incredibly supportive, and we love it."

Collins recalled the night he told his wife, Angela, he'd like to open a restaurant in the community they call home.

"She was like, 'What?,' because obviously, it's a huge lifestyle change."

The couple took the leap of faith, and in 2014, people all across Glendale, La Cañada, La Cresenta and Montrose walked into Town.

"I loved restaurants and food and hospitality," Collins said. "I wanted to do something that was gonna serve our community."

Today, Town is a staple for seasonal American fare, offering dinner entrees ranging from the miso-glazed salmon, steak and mushroom pasta, and a beautiful 16-ounce ribeye.

For lunch, there are smashburgers, a superfood salad, and I went to town on their pastrami, with coleslaw and garlic aioli on a French baguette.

On top of the food, Collins is just as excited about their craft cocktails, proud to be a gathering spot for families and singles in the community.

Town offers happy hour specials every day starting at 3 p.m.

"I'll come in in the evenings, and I'll see, you know, 15 or 16 people sitting at the bar and having a great time, talking with people they don't know," Collins said.

"The bar's not just about drinks. The bar's about community as much as everything else, and I think we're really blessed in that context."

With gas prices soaring and people spending less to dine out, Collins said many of our favorite restaurants are struggling to stay in business.

He's thankful for your Community Eats submission and support.

"It's very humbling," Collins said. "When somebody actually thinks of you in a context outside of here, enough to go through the machinations of recommending them to somebody like you, recommending us to somebody you, we really are. I'm a little shell-shocked by that and extremely grateful."

The restaurant is open seven days a week, and walk-ins are encouraged.

Town is at 2276 Honolulu Ave., in Montrose.

Thank you, Linda Ullum, for the submission.
