Inside Thelma's Cafe, where breakfast, lunch and community come together

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Swing by Thelma's Cafe in Santa Clarita for all things breakfast and lunch.

Located in the Seco Canyon Village shopping center, this local favorite has been bringing bold flavors and a welcoming experience to the community since 2007.

"It's very community-based," owners Luis and Ronnee Diaz said. "There's a lot of people here in Santa Clarita who support the local businesses."

A real-life Thelma and Luis opened the cafe after coming to Santa Clarita from El Salvador.

With a background in fine dining, Luis blends American, Latin and French influences throughout the menu.

That means plenty of choices, from big breakfast burritos and French toast to chicken pesto paninis, mimosas and cream-filled crepes.

One standout is the seafood omelet, topped with a full lobster tail and featuring flavors like truffle and lobster.

"For me, it's just the passion of the food," Luis said.

Families are also welcome. Thelma's offers a kids breakfast or lunch entrée with a soft drink or juice for $10.99.

"A main reason why we've been here for almost 20 years now is the support from the local community," the owners said. "People gravitate here because not only do they just come and eat, they come also for the experience."

Thelma's Cafe is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 22876 Copper Hill Dr., in Santa Clarita.

And if you like pupusas, you're in luck. From Wednesday through Sunday, pupusas are served from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"We talk to people, we welcome people, we're happy to have them here," the Diaz family said. "My dad loves this place. He's given his full life, sacrificed a lot of things to be here."
