SoCal storm creates dangerous driving conditions, flooding on roads

SAN FERNANDO, Calif (KABC) -- A portion of the 5 Freeway in San Fernando will be closed for several hours due to a crash involving a FedEx semi-truck.

The collision was reported around 3:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes near the 118 Freeway interchange. Just before 9 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said the freeway would be shut down for an additional three hours.

Eyewitness News drove past the crash and saw some packages spilled on the roadway. It's unclear if anyone was injured.

As the storm makes its way across Southern California, drivers are urged to use caution and travel at safe speeds. Those who don't need to travel should stay home, if possible, officials have said.

The dangerous driving conditions led to trouble spots in other areas, including the westbound 101 Freeway near Van Nuys Boulevard.

Traffic slowed to a crawl due to standing water that covered a portion of the roadway.

Elsewhere, a portion of the northbound 5 Freeway near Lankershim Boulevard in Sun Valley was closed to to significant flooding.
