LAPD identifies off-duty officer killed in Santa Clarita crash

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer killed in a single-car crash over the weekend has been identified as Bailey Magana.

He was assigned to the Mission Area.

Investigators say he was driving in the Saugus neighborhood in Santa Clarita early Saturday morning when his car went off the road, crashed into a traffic signal pole and caught fire.

Video from the scene on Cinema Drive and Bouquet Canyon Road shows the officer's Tesla destroyed in the fire.

An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was killed in a solo-vehicle crash in Santa Clarita, authorities said.

"Officer Magana leaves behind a loving wife, three young children, devoted parents, siblings, and countless coworkers and friends who are grieving this unimaginable loss," LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell wrote in a post on social media.
