A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy is now facing three felony counts after an investigation into allegations of off-duty sexual misconduct involving a minor.
Darin Van Arsdale, 34, of Lancaster, was arrested by detectives from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit and the Human Exploitation and Trafficking team on Monday in Calabasas. He is being held on $300,000 bail.
The investigation began when deputies in Stanislaus County responded to a report of a runaway juvenile. She was eventually located and returned to her home. Authorities say she reported engaging in "inappropriate sexual conversations online" with an adult man who knew her age and requested photographs from her.
Authorities say the man first contacted the juvenile on social media.
Van Arsdale faces charges of attempted lewd and lascivious actions with a minor, harmful matter sent to a minor with intent to seduce and communicating with a minor with intent to commit lewd acts.
